Instrument Recommendations

This page addresses which instruments we recommend for BACS band members.  It is not an exhaustive list, but it should suffice.  If you have any questions about a particular brand or model, please consult with a director.

There are some brands made so poorly that music stores will not repair them because they cannot be made to work properly.  It is extremely frustrating to students to do everything the director tells them to do, but the instrument will not allow them to be successful.  Rule of thumb, you will likely not find a high quality instrument at the same store that sells Milk, Eggs, and Radial Tires. 

Please consult a band director before purchasing any other brand of instrument.

We suggest that all personal instruments have some form of insurance coverage.  Personal instruments are not insured by the school.  Record all instrument serial numbers along with makes and models at home AND with the directors for identification purposes.

*Metronome -  A good model is the Quick Time QT3.  There are many others that also work well.
**Tuner - A good model is the Korg CA30 Chromatic Tuner.  There are many others that also work well.
